Answers to the 10 most frequently asked questions about the IGI "Classic" Perforating and Scoring Attachments.

Question 1.

Can the attachments be mounted on any AB Dick offset press?
Answer:

It will work on any AB Dick 360, provided it has “single lever” operation and chain delivery, 375, 8800, and all 9800 series presses with chain delivery.

Question 2.  How do the IGI Perforating and Scoring Attachments work?
Answer: By converting your AB Dick offset press to a super high-speed letterpress.
Question 3. Are the IGI Perforating and Scoring Attachments easy to use?
Answer: Extremely so – much, much easier than Litho PerfTM or Litho Score.
Question 4. Does my press need to be modified in any way?
Answer: Absolutely not.
Question 5. How long does it take to mount the attachments?
Answer: Approximately two minutes.
Question 6. How are the attachments mounted?
Answer:

You remove the blanket from the press, and use two of the four blanket screws to mount the attachment on the blanket cylinder.

Question 7.

Are the IGI Perforating and Scoring Attachments similar to Litho PerfTM or Litho Score?

Answer:

No, not at all. The IGI attachments offer several major advantages over Litho PerfTM or Litho ScoreTM. First, the IGI attachments mount on the blanket cylinder, not the impression cylinder, and therefore the perforation and score lines can be raised or lowered to the exact location on the sheet you desire, by simply using the image “raise/lower” control knob of the press. Second, it is physically impossible to ever get a wavy or crooked perforation or score. Third, the actual quality of the perforation or score is far superior.

Question 8. What kind of perforating and rules do the attachments use?
Answer: Actual letterpress rules. These rules are made of case-hardened and tempered steel, originally designed to strike against a steel bed or cylinder. However, with the IGI attachments, they only strike against a plastic or rubber “packing strip” that you peel the back off of and stick on the impression cylinder.
Question 9. How long should I expect my IGI attachment to last?
Answer: The attachment itself, with proper use and handling, will last a lifetime. There

are no moving parts to wear out, and since the perforating and scoring rules only contact the packing strips, they will never dull. The only part of the attachments that may eventually need replacing are the packing strips, because after many repeated applications, the strips may lose some of their “stickiness”. You may purchase the replacement strips from us, or make your own.
Question 10. Can the IGI attachments harm my press in any way?
Answer: Absolutely not. Even if you forget to apply the packing strip, the design of these attachments is such that the perforating and scoring rules cannot touch the impression cylinder.
